Five fun Easter weekend things to do with the family

08/04/2019
Colour your eggs and get the baskets ready! The Easter weekend is upon us and if you are stuck wondering what to do - we have some suggestions, involving a whole lot of crazy fun things for you to do with the whole family.

From treasure egg hunts, creating Easter plays and physical activities, there is something for everyone.

Here are a few things you can do over the Easter weekend:

1. Set up a treasure egg hunt
Whether it’s indoors or outdoors, a treasure egg hunt will surely bring out the laughter in your house and give you a glimpse of the competitive side of your kids!

This is the ultimate in classic Easter activities for kids! And there’s no doubt that children of all ages love nothing more than an egg hunt, where they get to go on an adventure and search for hidden (tasty) treasures.

Shopping for eggs, prizes and selecting fun hiding spots is all part of this fun activity. You can also try putting your child in charge of colouring the Easter eggs - just make sure you cover the kitchen table with plenty of newspaper.

2. Cook Easter lunch together
Having some Easter fun can be as simple as a good meal. Kids love to be included in the cooking and why not take every opportunity possible to teach them new skills.

Sit down with your little ones and plan the Easter lunch together, taking the time to select menu choices that will appeal to the entire family. Divide the cooking responsibilities, putting your child in charge of tasks that he or she can do without your supervision, such as making the salad or decorating the dinner table.

3. Create an Easter play
After dinner why not watch a play written, directed and starring your little ones. Have the children put on an Easter play or a puppet show of their own creation. Those mismatched socks that are always hanging around are the perfect choice for puppets, and old buttons, scraps of wool and fabric, pipe cleaners and ribbon are great for decorating the ‘set’.

4. Go on an outdoor adventure
One of the best ways to bond as a family is to take a fun walk. This is a great way to spend time together while getting some fresh air and exercise. You can even pack Easter eggs to eat along the way.

5. Movie date
There are lots of great family movies that are shown on TV during the Easter weekend. Schedule a time with the family, get some awesome movie snacks together and settle down to watch your favourites. If you can’t find a movie on TV, hire one that the whole family will enjoy. Movie night at home is cheaper than going to a cinema and you get to watch with your favourites in your snuggly pyjamas and slippers. What could be better?
