Marketing & Promotions Director - Head Office, Cape Town

The Crazy Store is a leading general merchandise retailer operating 515 stores across Southern Africa. We are a profitable, privately-owned family business with 4 distribution centres in South Africa.
We seek an experienced Marketing & Promotions Director to lead brand marketing and promotional activities across our store network. This role focuses on above-the-line marketing, digital strategy, brand custodianship, and customer engagement - working closely with our group buying team who handle product procurement and selection.
Key Responsibilities:
Above-the-Line Marketing
- Develop and execute advertising strategies across traditional media (print, radio, tv, outdoor)
- Manage leaflet creation, distribution strategy and effectiveness
- Coordinate media buying and agency relationships
- Ensure consistent brand messaging and price point communication
Digital Marketing & Brand Management
- Lead digital marketing strategy including website, social media
- Oversee brand custodianship and visual identity consistency
- Manage online customer engagement and digital customer acquisition
- Drive digital transformation initiatives aligned with retail trends
Below-the-Line & Sponsorships
- Develop and manage sponsorship strategies and partnerships
- Create experiential marketing and event-based promotions
- Manage community engagement and CSR marketing initiatives
Analysis
- Conduct post-campaign analysis and ROI measurement for all marketing activity
Customer Care
- Oversee customer care department, customer feedback systems and response protocols
- Drive customer retention and loyalty program development
Team Leadership
- Lead marketing team
- Establish clear processes for campaign development and approval
- Coordinate with production/merchandise team on campaign integration
Essential Requirements:
Marketing Experience
- Senior marketing role experience required
- Experience in retail preferred with focus on physical stores
- Proven track record in multi-channel marketing campaigns
- Brand management experience, development of brands and custodianship.
- Demonstrated success in digital marketing strategy and execution
Leadership & Management
- Proven ability to lead and develop marketing teams with a customer centric approach
- Experience in managing external agencies and vendor relationships
- Strong budget management and ROI optimization skills
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration abilities
Analytical Skills
- Strong analytical mindset with experience in pre and post campaign measurement, including product selection for marketing and relevant quantity of product for a successful campaign
- Comfort with marketing metrics, customer analytics, and reporting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Marketing degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Previous retail marketing experience in Southern African market
- Customer service or customer experience background
